Nani Vazana wins the fourteenth edition of Liet International

Nani Vazana has won Liet International 2024 with the song ‘Una Segunda Piel’ (‘A second skin’). Nani sings in Ladino. “My song is about the transition to afterlife. An evening like this with music and other cultures contributes to peace and tolerance in this world,” says Nani. Ladino is a roman language spoken by Sephardic Jews all over the world. Nani lives in Amsterdam and represented the Ladino language in the Netherlands.

Minority languages such as Catalan, Occitan, Corsican, Low Sorbian, Breton and the Frisian language could be heard on stage. Number 2 was Melissa Pander, who represented Friesland with her song ‘Foarby’ (‘Over’).

Liet International 2024 became a special edition, not least because of the weather conditions of Corsica. Strong winds and snow in Paris caused a lot of difficulties for artists an de the organisation of the festival.

The Corsican act Una Fiara Nova won the audience award. They could take hom e cheque of €2.000,-. Besides eternal fame, the winner of the jury award, Nani Vazani, took home the singing bird award and a cheque of €3.000,-.

The organisation was in the hands of the municipality of Bastia. Two years ago the winner of Liet International 2022 in the Danish town Tønder/Tondern was Corsican Doria with her band. Doria performed her winning song from two years ago during the break.
