Denmark organises 13th edition of Liet International

Thirteen finalists at song festival for regional and minority languages

Thirteen European regional and minority languages participate in Liet International next week, on Friday 13 May. The participants of the song festival for regional and minority languages come amongst other from regions in Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Finland, Israël and Denmark. The thirteen songs, who will compete each other, are selected by a jury out of more than 30 applications.

The final of Liet International 2022 takes place in the Danish town Tønder/Tondern, which will be transformed to a European festival city next week. Next Wednesday the rehearsals start. During the final on Friday 13 May, just before the closing show of the big European songcontest a day later, the Ukrainian singer Ingret will provide for the opening and the break.

“Denmark was going to organise the final of Liet International two years ago. But two weeks before the final, everything had to be cancelled due to Covid19”, said Uffe Iwersen from the Bund Deutscher Nordschleswiger (BDN), who is organising the festival together with the Frisian foundation Liet ’91. “Together with the organisation in Denmark, we had to organise everything from the beginning again”, so explains Tjallien Kalsbeek from Foundation Liet ’91. “New songs had to be admitted and selected by a new jury. And we had to switch from Aabenraa/Apenrade to Tønder/Tonder.”

It is possible to watch the final of Liet International 2022 on Friday 13 May from 19.00 o’clock on a livestream at www.omropfryslan.nl and the social media channels of Omrop Fryslân (Facebook en YouTube) and Liet International.

A few tickets are still available at https://v2.billetten.dk/index/eventdetails/eventno/101351
